Give your walls a lick of paint

You’d be surprised how a layer of paint can make such a difference in a home! It’ll freshen it up nicely. Try to stay away from flat white walls as these can be easily marked by tenants so stick to more neutral colours like grey or cream as they’re more forgiving.

Remember that certain areas might need specialised paint. For example, a bathroom can easily attract mould so may benefit from an anti-mould paint. Take note of moulding places in your property to avoid further problems.

Lighten your tenants' life

Remove dull and stained lampshades and replace with a modern alternative. A light and bright room is much more appealing to tenants so even if the light is artificial, some new spotlights could make all the difference between a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to moving in.

Avoid stained floors

Nobody wants to move into a home with stained carpets or sticky flooring. Changing the flooring is a great way to freshen up a property - you don’t need to go for the most expensive option. We often use grey carpets as darker carpets are much easier to clean.

Work on your curb appeal

Keeping on top of weeds isn’t the most appealing job - but it’s one that has to be done! As we said at the start of this blog, first impressions really are everything so you need the outside of your property to reflect the quality inside. Who would move into a home with a messy garden full of weeds? This would obviously need to be maintained by the tenant once they move in but it’s a good idea to spruce up the exterior of the property for viewings.

Clean those windows

Nothing screams ‘unloved property’ more than filthy windows covered in dirt and mould. Cleaning them costs next to nothing but will help to let more light in and give your property a fresher feel - much more attractive to tenants. 

Kitchen & Bathroom

A huge bugbear for tenants can be an old-fashioned, mucky kitchen or bathroom. You don’t need a full overhaul to make a difference in these rooms - which is good because a new kitchen or bathroom can be pricey! 

Try fitting new tiles and giving the room a lick of paint and of course, a deep clean. You may want to consider replacing the doors of cabinets or simply spruce them up with a lick of paint.
